H. Johnson & Sons has been established for well over 100 years, it originally started as joiners, wheelwrights and undertakers serving the local community. Its present owner Mr John Caunce started working for the Johnson family on leaving school in 1968 and carried on working for Mr John Johnson the last son working in the family business until his retirement in July 1984, upon which he took the business over.
In 2004 a decision was made to upgrade the funeral business to keep up with modern needs, in early 2005 the old premises were completely demolished and a new funeral home was built with modern refrigerated mortuary facilities, private chapels of rest, reception area all of which comply with the disabled act.
A new workshop and garage were constructed to complete the site. In December 2005 a service of dedication was held with local clergy of the main denominations in attendance.
In 2008 a modern 5-door hearse was purchased.
